Why there is no miracle cure for cancer - limitations to different methods of treating cancer (part 2)

WHY THERE IS NO MIRACLE CURE FOR CANCER - LIMITATIONS TO DIFFERENT METHODS OF TREATING CANCER (PART 2)
What about radiation treatment? We could try exposing the weeds to blazing sun while shading the normal plants. If they are growing close together it would not be possible to avoid scorching some of the normal plants. Thus this method is also very unlikely to work without some harm to normal plants. Radiation shares another problem with surgery: both methods only deal with the weeds we can see (cancer deposits we know about). Any tiny seeds or roots lying undetected and dormant cannot be eradicated by these methods.
We could try poisoning the weeds — this would be like chenu*-therapy. However, because the weeds (cancer cells) belong to the same family as the normal plants (all cells belonging to us), any weedkiller would damage the normal plants. A really successful weedkiller would attack some feature common to all the weeds but not shared by the good plants. Unfortunately no such weak point has been discovered for cancer cells. Because of this, all chemotherapy drugs have some harmful effects on normal cells (side effects). Although the chemotherapy drugs that are used damage cancer cells more than normal ones, there are none which are completely harmless for normal cells.
